February 10: Foyer!

Today Mom and Dad surprised us by having the foyer painted! Even though it wasn't exactly the color we had picked out on Mom's color deck, it was beautiful. It really made the oak floors and trip *pop*. It's a nice shade of brown and looks very dramatic with the high ceilings. We went with a satin finish paint because it is the easiest to clean. Nate walked in and thought it was too shiny, but it was still drying / curing and has turned out great. Another FYI, we thought about putting eggshell paint on for the second coat, but aparently, you can't put eggshell over satin because it won't adhere properly.

I washed the tall windows while the scaffolding was set up, finished priming the guest bedroom, and also did a first wash on the hardwood floor in the kitchen. So dirty. I washed it, but I don't think I'll be able to really get it clean until we're all moved it and everything is delivered.

Nate took back the tile samples we had checked out from Home Depot. Home Depot is awesome by the way. They have knowledgeable employees working there and you can get real advice and have them come out to your house and give free estimates for this and that. You can also check out samples. Nate priced out carpet at a couple places, but he started working nights so he went to the apartment early and took a nap.

It felt like a really productive day because we got color on the walls!!!
This is how the foyer used to look. Nasty gold light fixture that is too small for the space, nondescript color that does nothing for the height of the walls, and the living room is the same color. The space looks completely different now!!! Way better and way more inviting.
